WWOOF experience in Germany
Hello,
In the fall of year 2009 I took part in WWOOF exchange program in Germany.
In the WWOOF program host offers food, accommodation and opportunities to learn about organic, healthy lifestyles. I used the host list I chosed several farms and contacted them. I received several feedbacks, there were options to spend exchange on the bee-farm, or chop the wood for the winter on one of the other farms on the north. At the end I chosed a farm on the south – west. Lydia, the head of the farm, kindly offered for me a wwoof place to do my exchange. Finaly I took a train to the village that is geographically between Heidelberg, Stuttgart and Munich cities. Lydia met me on the train station and took me to the farm. There I met my german counterpart wwoofer Andreas who was planning to spend whole winter on the farm. My daily scheduled responsibilities were to take care of animals and garden, typical daily activities you can meet all around the world on the farm: feeding, cleaning, watering, take care of animals, harvesting etc. Andreas as a wwoofer was busy doing some activities on repairing, renovating the house: installation the doors, windows, operation with cement, bricks etc.
The farm produces number of things: sousages, jams, drinks. Comparing to kazakh farms, I would like to mention, that the german farm comparing to a kazakh farm - was heavy mechanised. That helps much to the host.
I would recommend wwoofing as a fantastic program where you can both help and learn, learn the organic, healthy way of life and culture.
